L\u00e4ht\u00f6kohtana oli kommunikatiiviselle kielen oppimiselle\r\ntuttu ajatus kielen oppimisesta k\u00e4ytt\u00e4en kielt\u00e4 oppituntien toiminnassa.\r\nTutkimukseen osallistui kolme englannin opettajaa Suomen alakouluista sek\u00e4\r\nheist\u00e4 kahden opettajan englannin opetuksen ryhm\u00e4. Toinen ryhm\u00e4 oli englannin\r\naineenopettajan 6. luokka ja toinen CLIL -luokanopettajan 4. luokka englannin\r\noppitunneillaan. Ensimm\u00e4isess\u00e4 oli oppilaita l\u00e4sn\u00e4 aineiston keruun aikana\r\n9 ja j\u00e4lkimm\u00e4isess\u00e4 17. Tutkimusmenetelmin\u00e4 toimivat haastattelu ja havainnointi,\r\ntarkemmin teemahaastattelu sek\u00e4 oppituntien videotallentaminen.\r\nKaikki kolme opettajaa haastateltiin, ja kahden opetusryhm\u00e4n kaksi englannin\r\ntuntia kuvattiin videokameralla. Aineisto koottiin v\u00e4lill\u00e4 joulukuu 2012 \u2013 tammikuu\r\n2013, jonka j\u00e4lkeen aineisto litteroitiin ja analysoitiin sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysin\r\nmenetelmin.\r\nTutkimuksen keskeisten tulosten mukaan englanti tulee oppilaiden keskin\u00e4isess\u00e4\r\nvuorovaikutuksessa esiin l\u00e4hinn\u00e4 silloin, kun teht\u00e4v\u00e4 tai opettaja sit\u00e4\r\nvaatii. Oppilaat keskustelevat englanniksi enemm\u00e4n opettajan kanssa, kun\r\nopettaja esitt\u00e4\u00e4 englanninkielisi\u00e4 kysymyksi\u00e4 ja oppilaat vastaavat n\u00e4ihin. Kesken\u00e4\u00e4n\r\noppilaat puhuvat paljon suomea. Lis\u00e4ksi englanninkielisell\u00e4 vuorovaikutuksella\r\non merkityst\u00e4 oppitunneilla kielen sy\u00f6t\u00f6ksen\u00e4, vuorovaikutukseen\r\nosallistumiseen rohkaisijana sek\u00e4 englannin kielen taitojen kehitt\u00e4j\u00e4n\u00e4.\r\nVuorovaikutuksen toteutumisen kannalta ilmeni, ett\u00e4 opettajalla on suuri\r\nrooli englanninkieliseen vuorovaikutukseen ohjaamisessa. H\u00e4n voi vaikuttaa\r\nvuorovaikutuksen toteutumiseen esimerkiksi suunnittelun, tukemisen ja hyv\u00e4n\r\nilmapiirin rakentamisen avulla. Hyv\u00e4 ilmapiiri nousi niin ik\u00e4\u00e4n t\u00e4rke\u00e4ksi tekij\u00e4ksi,\r\njotta oppilaat uskaltavat osallistua vuorovaikutukseen pelk\u00e4\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00e4 joutuvansa\r\nnaurunalaiseksi. The role of the English oral interaction in\r\nEnglish teaching in primary schools. University of Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4. Department of\r\nteacher education. A pro gradu -thesis in Education. 111 pages. 8 appendices.\r\n\r\nThe purpose of this study was to find out what the role of oral English interaction\r\nis in English teaching in primary school and how this interaction can take\r\nplace on English lessons. The idea - also familiar to communicative language\r\nteaching \u2013 that learning language by using it during lesson activities set the basis\r\nfor this study. Three teachers and two of whose English teaching group took\r\npart in the study. The first was a 6th grade group of an English subject teacher\r\nand the other a 4th grade CLIL class on their English lessons. In the first group 9\r\nstudents were present during the data collection, and in the other 17. The data\r\nwere collected through interviews and observations, specifically theme interviews\r\nand videotaping of lessons. All three teachers were interviewed and two\r\nEnglish lessons were videotaped with both the English study groups. The data\r\nwas collected through December 2012 to January 2013, after which the data was\r\ntranscribed and analyzed.\r\nAccording to the findings, English is part of the students\u2019 interaction with\r\neach other usually only when the task instructions or the teacher requires it. The\r\nstudents discuss in English more with the teacher when the teacher poses questions\r\nin English and the students answer to them. With each other they communicate\r\na lot in Finnish. In addition, English interaction has meaning during\r\nlessons in offering English input, encouraging participation in interaction, and\r\ndeveloping English language skills.\r\nConcerning the realization of English interaction, teachers appeared to\r\nhave a big role in managing the interaction. For example through planning,\r\nsupport and creating a good atmosphere in the classroom the teacher could\r\npromote English interaction. Also a positive atmosphere turned out to be an\r\nimportant factor in promoting the students\u2019 participation in interaction without\r\na fear of being ridiculed.
