Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n yliopisto, 56 sivua.\n\nTarkoitus. Tieteellinen n\u00e4ytt\u00f6 l\u00e4mp\u00f6hoidon vaikutuksista palautumiseen on rajallinen ja my\u00f6s hieman ristiriitainen. Hausswirthin ym. (2011) mukaan infrapunal\u00e4mp\u00f6 kiihdytt\u00e4\u00e4 palautumista, mutta Pournot ym. (2011) eiv\u00e4t havainneet l\u00e4mp\u00f6terapialla olevan vaikutusta palautumiseen. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli l\u00f6yt\u00e4\u00e4 lis\u00e4\u00e4 konkreettista tietoa l\u00e4mp\u00f6terapian ja erityisesti infrapunal\u00e4mm\u00f6n vaikutuksista urheilijoiden palautumiseen.\nMenetelm\u00e4t. Koeryhm\u00e4ss\u00e4 oli kymmenen teholajien kansallisen tason miesurheilijaa (ik\u00e4 22.3 \u00b1 4.5 v.) yleisurheilusta, telinevoimistelusta ja pes\u00e4pallosta. Koeryhm\u00e4 toimi omana kontrolliryhm\u00e4n\u00e4\u00e4n. Koehenkil\u00f6iden aloitusj\u00e4rjestys ryhmiss\u00e4 arvottiin. Harjoittelu ja ravitsemus vakioitiin viiden vuorokauden harjoittelujakson aikana. Tutkimusasetelma koostui suorituskykytesteist\u00e4 (isometriset voimatestit, kevennyshyppy ja Wingaten 30 sekunnin anaerobinen maksimitesti polkupy\u00f6r\u00e4ergometrill\u00e4), aamukyselyist\u00e4 ja paastoverin\u00e4ytteist\u00e4 (testosteroni, kortisoli, SHBG = sex hormone binding globulin, hsCRP = high sensitive C-reactive protein ja kreatiinikinaasi). Koejakson aikana koehenkil\u00f6t k\u00e4yttiv\u00e4t infrapunapussia (FIR65\u00ba, U2i / Oy You Two Import Ltd., Oulu, 40 minuutin ajan l\u00e4mp\u00f6tilassa 50 \u00baC) jokaisena iltana maanantaista torstaihin. Infrapunapussia ei k\u00e4ytetty kontrollijaksolla. Tilastolliset analyysit tehtiin k\u00e4ytt\u00e4en varianssianalyysi\u00e4 ja parillisten otosten t-testi\u00e4. Merkitsevyystasoksi m\u00e4\u00e4riteltiin p<0.05.\nTulokset. Keskim\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4inen teho Wingaten 30 s testiss\u00e4 kasvoi merkitsev\u00e4sti (p = 0.015) koejakson aikana, kun taas kontrollijaksolla merkitsevi\u00e4 muutoksia ei havaittu. Koejakson ja kontrollijakson v\u00e4lill\u00e4 ei havaittu merkitsevi\u00e4 eroja voimatesteiss\u00e4, kevennyshypyss\u00e4 eik\u00e4 verest\u00e4 mitatuissa muuttujissa. Kuitenkin veren SHBG-tasossa havaittiin merkitsev\u00e4 nousu ensimm\u00e4isen ja kolmannen p\u00e4iv\u00e4n v\u00e4lill\u00e4 (p = 0.032) ja testosteronitasossa kolmannen ja viidennen p\u00e4iv\u00e4n v\u00e4lill\u00e4 (p = 0.023) koejakson aikana. Vastaavasti merkitsevi\u00e4 muutoksia testosteronin ja SHBG:n osalta ei ollut havaittavissa kontrollijaksolla. Kreatiinikinaasin taso oli merkitsev\u00e4sti korkeampi toisena p\u00e4iv\u00e4n\u00e4 verrattuna ensimm\u00e4iseen p\u00e4iv\u00e4\u00e4n kontrollijaksolla (p = 0.023), ja kolmantena p\u00e4iv\u00e4n\u00e4 ensimm\u00e4iseen p\u00e4iv\u00e4\u00e4n verrattuna sek\u00e4 koejaksolla (p = 0.030) ett\u00e4 kontrollijaksolla (p = 0.007). Suhteellinen muutos testosteroni/kortisoli-suhteessa kasvoi merkitsev\u00e4sti enemm\u00e4n koejakson aikana verrattuna kontrollijaksoon (p = 0.026). Lihasarkuus oli lievempi koejakson aikana verrattuna kontrollijaksoon.\nPohdinta ja johtop\u00e4\u00e4t\u00f6kset. Tutkimus osoitti infrapunal\u00e4mm\u00f6n parantavan anaerobisen suorituskyvyn palautumista viiden vuorokauden harjoittelujakson aikana. Urheilijoiden kokemat tuntemukset tukevat infrapunal\u00e4mm\u00f6n positiivisia vaikutuksia palautumiseen. Muutokset testosteroni/kortisoli-suhteessa, kreatiinikinaasissa, ja seerumin testosteroni- ja SHBG- tasoissa antavat viitteit\u00e4 kehon anabolisen eli rakentavan tilan kehittymisest\u00e4 ja nopeutuneesta palautumisesta infrapunal\u00e4mm\u00f6n vaikutuksesta. Scientific evidences of thermal therapy on performance recovery are limited and also controversial. It has been shown recently by Hausswirth et al. (2011) that far infrared (FIR) therapy accelerates recovery, while it is also documented that temperate water immersion does not improve performance recovery (Pournot et al. 2011). The purpose of the present study was to find more concrete information about the effects of the thermal therapy and especially the FIR warm on the recovery of the athletes.\nMethods. The experimental group consisted of ten national level male athletes (22.3 \u00b1 4.5 years) from the power events in track and field, gymnastics and Finnish baseball. The experimental group was its own control group. Starting order of the subjects in the groups was randomized. Training and nutrition were standardized during the 5-day training period. The experimental design consisted of performance tests (isometric strength tests, countermovement jump and Wingate 30 s test), questionnaires and the fasting blood samples (testosterone, cortisol, SHBG, hsCRP and creatinekinase [CK]). In contrast to the control period, during the experimental period the subjects used infrared bag (FIR65\u00ba, U2i / Oy You Two Import Ltd, Oulu, Finland, 40 min / 50 \u00baC) every evening from Monday to Thursday. Statistical analyses included ANOVA and paired samples t-test. Level of significance was set at p<0.05.\nResults. Average power in Wingate 30 s test increased significantly (p = 0.015) during the experimental condition, while during the control condition no significant changes were observed. There were no significant differences in the blood variables between the measurement periods. However, there was a significant increase in the blood SHBG level (p = 0.032) between the first and the third day and in the testosterone level (p = 0.023) between the third and the fifth day during the experimental condition. The level of CK was significantly higher in the second day than in the first day (p = 0.023) during the control condition and in the third day than in the first day during the control (p = 0.007) and the experimental conditions (0.030). The relative change in the testosterone/cortisol ratio between the day one and the day five increased significantly more (p = 0.026) during the experimental condition than during the control condition. The sensations in the muscle soreness were milder during the experimental condition when compared to the control condition. \nDiscussion and conclusions. The present study indicates that FIR warm improves recovery of the anaerobic performance during the 5- day training period. The subjective sensations support the positive effects of the FIR warm on recovery. The changes in the testosterone/cortisol ratio, CK response, and serum testosterone and SHBG levels indicate probability to the improved anabolic state and accelerated recovery due to the FIR warm. However, because there were no significant changes in blood variables between the two conditions, additional studies are needed considering the effects of the FIR warm on them.
