The focus of the analysis is on two simple cases. In the first case it is assumed that the left matrix that diagonalizes the mass matrix of charged leptons and the corresponding matrix of down quarks are equal. In the second case it is likewise assumed that the corresponding diagonalizing matrices of neutrinos and up quarks are equal.\n\nFirst, theoretical concepts related to the mixing of quarks and especially to the mixing of neutrinos are presented. These are e.g. fermion mass generation in the Standard Model, Majorana masses of neutrinos and the so-called seesaw mechanism. Regarding experiments, neutrino oscillations are also briefly discussed. After this, theoretical and empirical observations supporting a connection between quark and lepton sectors are presented. These include the mass matrix relations between quarks and leptons that emerge from grand unified theories and the experimentally observed so-called quark-lepton complementarity that relates quark and lepton mixing angles.\n\nUsing the simple relations between quark and lepton mixing matrices, the standard parameters of neutrino mixing are solved as functions of quark mixing parameters. The most interesting results are obtained using a bimaximal ansatz for the unknown matrices in the problem. According to the results, the current observed neutrino data agrees with a case where neutrino mixing is formed from two maximal rotations (bimaximal mixing) and quark mixing.
