Tavoitteena on etsi\u00e4 vastausta siihen, miksi Lipmanin mukaan filosofiaa tulisi opettaa lapsille kouluissa jo varhaisesta ik\u00e4vaiheesta l\u00e4htien. Lis\u00e4ksi tarkastelen lasten filosofointia kohtaan suunnattua kritiikki\u00e4 sek\u00e4 Lipmanin ajatteluun mahdollisesti liittyvi\u00e4 teoreettisia ongelmia. L\u00e4hestymistapa on ongelmakeskeinen.\r\n\r\nTutkielman alussa tarkastellaan koulutuksen standardiparadigmaa, jota Lipman pit\u00e4\u00e4 ongelmallisena. Kyseisess\u00e4 paradigmassa kasvatus ymm\u00e4rret\u00e4\u00e4n passiivisena tiedon siirt\u00e4misen\u00e4 tiet\u00e4vilt\u00e4 tiet\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00f6mille. Mallin tilalle Lipman ehdottaa itsen\u00e4iseen ajatteluun ja tiedon aktiiviseen rakentamiseen pohjautuvaa reflektiivist\u00e4 paradigmaa, jonka pohjimmaisiksi kasvatusideaaleiksi nousevat j\u00e4rkevyys ja demokratia.\r\n\r\nFilosofia kykenee Lipmanin mukaan parhaiten vastaamaan reflektiivisen paradigman kasvatustavoitteisiin. Filosofisen dialogin kautta lapsille voidaan opettaa itsen\u00e4isi\u00e4, kriittisi\u00e4, luovia, v\u00e4litt\u00e4vi\u00e4 ja demokraattisia ajattelutaitoja kokonaisvaltaisella tavalla, joka ilman filosofista ulottuvuutta j\u00e4\u00e4 v\u00e4ltt\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00e4 puutteelliseksi.\r\nTutkielmassa argumentoidaan, ett\u00e4 lapsille suunnattua filosofiaa kohtaan esitetty kritiikki ei ole tyhjent\u00e4v\u00e4\u00e4. Kritiikin taustalla vaikuttaa tietty kehityspsykologinen viitekehys, jonka yhteensopivuus filosofisen ajattelun kanssa voidaan kyseenalaistaa. Lasten filosofoinnin kriitikot vertaavat usein ep\u00e4oikeudenmukaisesti lasten ja aikuisten filosofista ajattelua kesken\u00e4\u00e4n tai sekoittavat lapsille suunnatun filosofian ja akateemisen ammattimaisen filosofian. V\u00e4ite, jonka mukaan lapsille sovellettu filosofia ei ole todellista filosofiaa perustuu ongelmalliseen ajattelutapaan hahmottaa filosofian olemus jostakin tietyst\u00e4 n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta k\u00e4sin ja pyrkimykseen t\u00e4lt\u00e4 pohjalta m\u00e4\u00e4ritt\u00e4\u00e4 millaista filosofian tulisi olla. Lopuksi tarkastellaan kohdennetummin Lipmanin ajatteluun liittyvi\u00e4 ongelmallisia j\u00e4nnitteit\u00e4. Tutkielmassa esitet\u00e4\u00e4n, ett\u00e4 kyseisten teemojen tiedostaminen ja reflektointi on Lipmanin pedagogisen ajattelun mielekkyyden kannalta t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4.\r\n\r\nTutkielman tuloksista voidaan p\u00e4\u00e4tell\u00e4, ett\u00e4 mik\u00e4li lasten kasvatuksen tavoitteena on itsen\u00e4isten ajattelu- ja vuorovaikutustaitojen kehitt\u00e4minen sek\u00e4 demokraattisten ideaalien ja itsetuntemuksen vahvistaminen, tulisi filosofia \u2013 j\u00e4sennettyn\u00e4 pedagogisesti mielekk\u00e4\u00e4sti \u2013 sis\u00e4llytt\u00e4\u00e4 jo pienten lasten kouluopetuksen keskeiseksi alueeksi.
