Motivaatio on eritt\u00e4in t\u00e4rke\u00e4 tekij\u00e4 vieraan kielen oppimistulosten selitt\u00e4j\u00e4n\u00e4, joten viime vuosikymmenell\u00e4 kiinnostuttiin my\u00f6s k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6n toimista, joita opettaja voi toteuttaa parantaakseen oppilaiden motivaatiota luokkahuoneissa. N\u00e4it\u00e4 toimia kutsutaan motivointistrategioiksi.\r\nTulevien vieraiden kielten opettajien k\u00e4sitykset ja kokemukset motivointistrategioista Suomessa olivat l\u00e4hes tutkimaton aihe, joten kyseinen n\u00e4k\u00f6kulma otettiin t\u00e4h\u00e4n tutkimukseen. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4llisten menetelmien avulla saada k\u00e4sitys tulevien opettajien yleisest\u00e4 tietoisuudesta motivointistrategioista sek\u00e4 pedagogisten opintojen aikana saadusta tiedosta motivointistrategioista. Lis\u00e4ksi tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli kyselylomaketta k\u00e4ytt\u00e4en saada selville, miten hy\u00f6dyllisin\u00e4 tulevat opettajat (N = 84) motivointistrategioita pitiv\u00e4t, miten paljon he olivat niit\u00e4 kahden viimeisen vuoden aikana k\u00e4ytt\u00e4neet sek\u00e4 selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 mahdollinen suhde hy\u00f6dyllisyyden ja strategioiden k\u00e4yt\u00f6n v\u00e4lill\u00e4. Tutkimukseen valittiin 41 motivointistrategiaa kaikki niiden eri osa-alueet mahdollisimman hyvin huomioon ottaen. Tuloksia analysoitaessa vertailtiin kahta ryhm\u00e4\u00e4, joista toinen oli suorittanut opettajaopintonsa viimeist\u00e4\u00e4n edellisen\u00e4 lukuvuonna (25 henkil\u00f6\u00e4) ja toinen (59 henkil\u00f6\u00e4) oli parhaillaan suorittamassa opettajaopintojensa viimeist\u00e4 lukuvuotta.\r\nTulokset osoittivat, ett\u00e4 kokeneempi ryhm\u00e4 oli selke\u00e4sti tietoisempi motivointistrategioista kuin kokemattomampi ryhm\u00e4, ja ero oli tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4. Opettajaopintojen aikana saadun tiedon m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 motivointistrategioista oli kaikkien vastaajien kesken suhteellisen v\u00e4h\u00e4inen, eik\u00e4 ryhmien v\u00e4lill\u00e4 ollut tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4\u00e4 eroa vastauksissaan sen suhteen. Ryhmien v\u00e4lill\u00e4 ei my\u00f6sk\u00e4\u00e4n ollut suurta eroa n\u00e4kemyksiss\u00e4\u00e4n motivointistrategioiden hy\u00f6dyllisyydest\u00e4, mutta kokeneempi ryhm\u00e4 oli k\u00e4ytt\u00e4nyt motivointistrategioita opetuksessaan selke\u00e4sti kokemattomampaa ryhm\u00e4\u00e4 enemm\u00e4n, mik\u00e4 n\u00e4kyi my\u00f6s suhteessa hy\u00f6dyllisyyden ja motivointistrategioiden k\u00e4yt\u00f6n v\u00e4lill\u00e4. Sen sijaan kokemattomammalla ryhm\u00e4ll\u00e4 vastaavaa suhdetta ei ollut.\r\nTulokset osoittivat, ett\u00e4 mit\u00e4 enemm\u00e4n kokemusta ja pedagogista tietoutta tulevilla opettajilla oli, sit\u00e4 enemm\u00e4n he olivat k\u00e4ytt\u00e4neet eri motivointistrategioita opetuksessaan viimeisen kahden vuoden aikana. Vaikka vastaajat pitiv\u00e4t motivointistrategioita hy\u00f6dyllisin\u00e4, he kokivat saaneensa tietoa motivointistrategioista pedagogisten opintojen aikana v\u00e4h\u00e4isesti.
