Tutkielma l\u00e4htee liikkeelle ajatuksesta, ett\u00e4 ruokaa koskevat valinnat eiv\u00e4t siis ole pelk\u00e4st\u00e4\u00e4n ravitsemuksellisia, vaan my\u00f6s kulttuurisia ja symbolisia valintoja. Ruoan valinnan ja ruokatapojen muokkaajana kulttuuri on ratkaisevassa asemassa. Tutkielmassa pyrit\u00e4\u00e4n juhlan ja arjen eronteon kautta avaamaan lehdess\u00e4 ruoanvalintaan liitettyj\u00e4 merkityksi\u00e4 my\u00f6s laajemmin.\r\nAineistona on Me Naisten vuosikerrasta 2007 kootut ruokajutut ja TV-sn\u00e4ksi-palstat. Vuosikerrasta suoritetaan l\u00f6yh\u00e4 sis\u00e4l\u00f6nanalyysi Johanna M\u00e4kel\u00e4n vastinpareja soveltaen. T\u00e4m\u00e4n j\u00e4lkeen aineistosta nostetaan 4 esimerkki\u00e4, jotka analysoidaan Barthesin semioottista analyysimenetelm\u00e4\u00e4 k\u00e4ytt\u00e4en.\r\nRuokajuttujen perusteella juhla ja arki eroavat toisistaan hedonistisen ja askeettisen asenteen perusteella. Juhla-ateria on my\u00f6s laajempi ja sturkturoidumpi kuin arkiateria. Molemmissa tapauksissa tyylittely kuuluu olennaisena osana ateriointiin. Lehti my\u00f6s tarjoaa yhdess\u00e4sy\u00f6misen mallia sek\u00e4 arkeen ett\u00e4 juhlaan. TV-sn\u00e4ksist\u00e4 poimitaan ruokajutuille vastakkaisia merkityksi\u00e4. Juhla ja arki eiv\u00e4t eroa toisistaan lainkaan.
