Tarkempina tutkimuskysymyksin\u00e4 olivat: mik\u00e4 on koulunk\u00e4ynnin merkitys viidesluokkalaisille, mink\u00e4laiset ovat lasten vaikutusmahdollisuudet koulussa ja mink\u00e4lainen on koulun piilo-opetussuunnitelma. T\u00e4m\u00e4n lis\u00e4ksi sosialisaatioon liittyen tutkittiin oppilaiden osallisuutta koulun p\u00e4\u00e4t\u00f6ksenteossa sek\u00e4 koettua opiskelun ja oppimisen mielekkyytt\u00e4. Tutkimuksen keskeisen\u00e4 n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmana oli oppilaiden kritiikit\u00f6n asennoituminen kouluun ja sit\u00e4 kautta ilmenev\u00e4 koulun kulttuuriin sosiaalistuminen. \r\n Tutkimuksen aineisto ker\u00e4ttiin syksyll\u00e4 2011 haastattelemalla 3-4 hengen ryhmiss\u00e4 yhteens\u00e4 29 oppilasta, kahdelta eri luokalta. Aineisto analysoitiin aineistol\u00e4ht\u00f6isesti induktiivisen analyysin periaatteella. Tulkinnassa aineistosta pyrittiin l\u00f6yt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n piiloisia merkityksi\u00e4 oppilaiden sosiaalistumisesta koulun kulttuuriin sek\u00e4 p\u00e4\u00e4sem\u00e4\u00e4n k\u00e4siksi siihen, mink\u00e4lainen on koulun piiloopetussuunnitelma ja mink\u00e4laiseen ajatteluun se ohjaa. Tulkintoja k\u00e4sitteellistettiin ja vahvistettiin sosialisaatioon, piilo-opetussuunnitelmaan, oppilaiden \r\nosallisuuteen ja oppimisen sek\u00e4 opiskelun ja oppimisen mielekkyyteen liittyviin aiempiin tutkimuksiin ja teorioihin vertailemalla. \r\n Tutkimuksen mukaan oppilaat ovat vahvasti sosiaalistuneita koulun kulttuuriin eli ajatteluun koulun t\u00e4rkeydest\u00e4 oman tulevaisuuden kannalta, koulun muuttumattomaan toimintakulttuuriin, ulkoiseen kontrolliin ja oppilaiden passiiviseen rooliin sek\u00e4 yhteiskunnan per\u00e4\u00e4nkuuluttamiin arvoihin (kulutus, ty\u00f6voima ja kansainv\u00e4lisyys). Vaikka opiskelu ei ole aina mielek\u00e4st\u00e4, suurin osa oppilaista suhtautuu kouluun kritiikitt\u00f6m\u00e4sti ja neutraalisti. T\u00e4t\u00e4 tuntuu osaltaan selitt\u00e4v\u00e4n oppilaiden v\u00e4h\u00e4inen osallisuus koulun p\u00e4\u00e4t\u00f6ksenteossa ja ulkoisen kontrollin suuri m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4. T\u00e4m\u00e4 johtaa oppilaiden passivoitumiseen eli n\u00e4k\u00f6alattomuuteen ja haluttomuuteen vaikuttaa koulun toimintakulttuuriin. Opetussuunnitelman tavoite aktiiviseksi kansalaiseksi kasvattamisesta ei n\u00e4yt\u00e4 suurimman osan oppilaista kohdalla toteutuvan. Koulussa tapahtuvan sosialisaation suurin tulos on koulun itsens\u00e4 legitimointi.
