Suurin ero rakenteiden välillä on valmistusmenetelmä: isompi rakenne on valmistettu origamitekniikalla ja pienempi niin sanottua tiilimenetelmää käyttäen. Molekyylielektroniikan kannalta DNA:n sähkönjohtavuus on oleellinen asia, sillä DNA on itsejärjestäytymisominaisuuksiensa vuoksi osoittautunut hyvin lupaavaksi molekyyliksi: yksinkertaisten nanoskaalan laitteiden valmistus käyttäen DNA-pohjaisia menetelmiä on jo mahdollista. Työssä tutkittavat rakenteet ajetaan dielektroforeesia käyttäen kahden kultaisen sormenpään kaltaisen nanoelektrodin väliin, missä ne kiinnittyvät paikalleen DNA-rakenteiden sisältämän tioliryhmän ja elektrodien kullan välisellä kovalenttisella sidoksella. Tasavirtamittaukset matalassa ilmankosteudessa osoittavat, että rakenteet ovat hyviä eristeitä, mutta vaihtovirtamittaukset korkeassa ilmankosteudessa paljastavat, että adsorboituneilla vesimolekyyleillä DNA:n ympärillä on merkittävä vaikutus havaittavaan johtavuuteen.
