Aikaisemmat tutkimukset ovat\r\nuseimmiten keskittyneet ideaaliin opettajan antamaan kirjalliseen palautteeseen sen sijaan,\r\nett\u00e4 olisi selvitetty millaista palautetta opettajat todellisuudessa antavat. T\u00e4ll\u00e4\r\ntutkimuksella pyrittiin nimenomaan p\u00e4\u00e4sem\u00e4\u00e4n perille t\u00e4m\u00e4n palautteenantamisen\r\nmuodon nykytilasta, jotta sit\u00e4 voitaisiin kehitt\u00e4\u00e4 realistiselta pohjalta. Hyland (2003: 3-18)\r\ntarjosi tutkimukselle teoreettisen pohjan esittelem\u00e4ll\u00e4 kuusi olennaista kirjoittamisen osaaluetta,\r\njoiden mukaan tutkimuksen aineiston opettajan kirjallinen palaute jaoteltiin.\r\nN\u00e4m\u00e4 kuusi osa-aluetta olivat; kielirakenteet, tekstifunktiot, luova ilmaisu,\r\nkirjoitusprosessi, sis\u00e4lt\u00f6 sek\u00e4 genre. Aineisto koostui 30 suomalaisen lukiolaisen englannin\r\nkielen kirjoitelmista, joissa oli mukana heid\u00e4n opettajansa antama kirjallinen palaute.\r\nHylandin teorian mukaisesti jaoteltu aineisto k\u00e4siteltiin kvantitatiivisesti, jotta saatiin\r\nselville edell\u00e4 mainittujen osa-alueiden prosenttiosuudet ja niiden v\u00e4linen hierarkia.\r\nTulosten mukaan opettajan antama kirjallinen palaute on Hylandin teorian valossa hyvin\r\nep\u00e4tasapainoista, sill\u00e4 eniten kommentoitu osa-alue, eli kielirakenteet, kattoi yli 80\r\nprosenttia kaikesta annetusta palautteesta. Tulokset nostavat esiin monia kysymyksi\u00e4.\r\nEnsinn\u00e4kin on mielenkiintoista pohtia, mist\u00e4 t\u00e4m\u00e4 ep\u00e4tasapaino johtuu.
