Tutkimus tarkasteli, miten nuori-vanhempisuhteessa nuoren kokema l\u00e4heisyys sek\u00e4 konfliktit muunsivat 9. luokan yksin\u00e4isyyden ja keskeytt\u00e4misaikomusten v\u00e4list\u00e4 yhteytt\u00e4. Tutkimuksessa k\u00e4ytettiin TIKAPUU 2 - Yl\u00e4koulusta toisen asteen opintoihin -tutkimushankkeen aineistoa ja tutkimus rajattiin niihin nuoriin, jotka vastasivat kyselyyn 9. luokan kev\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4 (N = 885). Tutkimuksessa k\u00e4ytetty aineisto ker\u00e4ttiin kolmessa mittapisteess\u00e4: kev\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4 2018, syksyll\u00e4 2018 ja kev\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4 2019. Yksin\u00e4isyytt\u00e4 ja siin\u00e4 koulusiirtym\u00e4ss\u00e4 tapahtuvia muutoksia tutkittiin ristiintaulukoinnilla. Yksin\u00e4isyyden sek\u00e4 siin\u00e4 tapahtuvan muutoksen yhteytt\u00e4 keskeytt\u00e4misaikomuksiin sek\u00e4 nuori-vanhempisuhteen laadun muuntavaa\nvaikutusta kyseisess\u00e4 yhteydess\u00e4 tutkittiin hierarkkisella lineaarisella regressioanalyysill\u00e4.\nNuorten yksin\u00e4isyyden havaittiin olevan suhteellisen pysyv\u00e4\u00e4 yli koulusiirtym\u00e4n. Sek\u00e4 9. luokalla koettu korkean tason yksin\u00e4isyys ett\u00e4 koulusiirtym\u00e4ss\u00e4 lis\u00e4\u00e4ntynyt yksin\u00e4isyys olivat yhteydess\u00e4 lis\u00e4\u00e4ntyneisiin koulutuksen keskeytt\u00e4misaikomuksiin. Nuori-vanhempisuhteen konflikteilla havaittiin suuntaa antava muuntava vaikutus yksin\u00e4isyyden ja keskeytt\u00e4misaikomusten v\u00e4lisess\u00e4 yhteydess\u00e4: suhteen konfliktien ollessa runsaita oli matalankin tason yksin\u00e4isyys yhteydess\u00e4 kohonneisiin keskeytt\u00e4misaikomuksiin. Konfliktien ollessa v\u00e4h\u00e4isi\u00e4 ainoastaan yksin\u00e4isyyden taso m\u00e4\u00e4ritti keskeytt\u00e4misaikomuksissa tapahtuvaa vaihtelua. Tutkimustulokset antavat n\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00e4 yksin\u00e4isyyden pysyv\u00e4st\u00e4 luonteesta koulusiirtym\u00e4ss\u00e4 ja yksin\u00e4isyyden ja koulutuksen keskeytt\u00e4misaikomusten v\u00e4lisest\u00e4 positiivisesta yhteydest\u00e4. Tutkimustulokset kannustavat kiinnitt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n huomiota nuorten yksin\u00e4isyyden torjumiseen sek\u00e4 kouluissa ett\u00e4 laajemmin yhteiskunnallisella tasolla esimerkiksi j\u00e4rjest\u00f6- ja harrastustoiminnan kautta. Tutkimus antaa osviittaa nuori-vanhempisuhteen laadun merkityksellisyydest\u00e4 my\u00f6h\u00e4isnuoruudessa ja siit\u00e4, ett\u00e4 my\u00f6s teini-ik\u00e4isten vanhempien tulisi saada tukea vanhemmuuteen tarvittaessa. Nuorten yksin\u00e4isyyteen puuttuminen voi katkaista koulutuksen keskeytt\u00e4misaikomusten kierteen, joka \u00e4\u00e4rimmill\u00e4\u00e4n voi johtaa koulutuksen keskeytt\u00e4misen kautta heikkoon yhteiskunnalliseen asemaan ja vakaviin henkil\u00f6kohtaisiin ongelmiin.", "language": "fi", "element": "description", "qualifier": "abstract", "schema": "dc"}, {"key": "dc.description.abstract", "value": "This study examined youth loneliness across the transition from lower secondary school to upper secondary education, the role of loneliness in Grade 9 and the changes in loneliness across the school transition in later dropout intentions, and the extent to which adolescent- parent conflict and closeness moderate the connection between Grade 9 loneliness and later dropout intentions. This study utilized data from the Stairway 2 project. Loneliness and the changes in it were examined using cross tabulation. The connection between loneliness, changes in loneliness and dropout intentions, and the moderating effect of the quality of the youth-parent relationship were examined using hierarchical regression analyses. Loneliness was found to be relatively stable across the school transition. Both high loneliness experienced in Grade 9 and increasing loneliness across the school transition were positively correlated with dropout intentions in upper secondary school. The conflicts of a youth-parent relationship were found to have a marginally significant moderating effect in the connection between loneliness and the dropout intentions: when adolescents perceived high levels of conflict, even low loneliness was connected to elevated levels of dropout intentions. When conflicts were low, the levels of loneliness determined the levels of dropout intentions. The results of this study provide evidence of the stability of loneliness across school transition and the connection between loneliness and dropout intentions. The results encourage schools to pay attention to youth loneliness.
