Yhteenveto:In this study, existing decision table definitions are first analysed. It is shown that three different types of decision tables exist, namely a limited-entry decision table, an extended-entry decision table and a multivalued decision table, the mutual relationships of which are indefinite. In addition, in the definition of each type of decision tables there are remarkable deficiencies both on the nonformal and formal levels. The main theme of the work is the creation of a new decision table definition covering all types or decision tables, in which the objectives of this definition are expressed hy the attributes: general, accurate, comprehensible, compatible and usable. Function representations are also created for the description of decision tables. A hierarchical decision table network is defined for the environment of a decision table. Finally, the definition is evaluated by means of the existing decision table definitions in respect of the fulfilment of the objectives.
