On todenn\u00e4k\u00f6ist\u00e4, ett\u00e4 vanhemman omat oppimisen kokemukset ja vaikeudet voivat olla yhteydess\u00e4 tuen min\u00e4pystyvyyteen. Oppimisvaikeuksien on havaittu olevan perinn\u00f6llisi\u00e4,\nmink\u00e4 takia aihetta on t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4 tutkia jo koulutulokkailla. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 vanhemman omien oppimisen vaikeuksien kokemusten yhteytt\u00e4 tuen min\u00e4pystyvyyteen. Toisena tavoitteena oli tarkastella, onko vanhemman tuen min\u00e4pystyvyydell\u00e4 yhteytt\u00e4 lapsen akateemiseen\nmin\u00e4pystyvyyteen ensimm\u00e4isen luokan lopussa. Kolmanneksi tarkastelimme vanhemman ja lapsen min\u00e4pystyvyyden kokemusten yhteytt\u00e4 lapsen taitotasoon matematiikassa ja lukemisessa ensimm\u00e4isen luokan lopussa. Tutkimus oli osa Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n yliopiston Pieni Karhu \u2013seurantatutkimusta. Tutkimukseen osallistui 161 ensimm\u00e4ist\u00e4 luokkaa k\u00e4yv\u00e4\u00e4 lasta ja heid\u00e4n huoltajansa Keski-Suomen,\nPohjois-Savon ja Pirkanmaan alueiden peruskouluista. Tutkittavien ryhm\u00e4 koostui lapsista, joilla osalla on todettu heikosti (n = 101) ja osalla tavanomaisesti kehittyneet (n = 60) akateemisten taitojen valmiudet. Muuttujien v\u00e4lisi\u00e4 yhteyksi\u00e4 analysoitiin Spearmanin j\u00e4rjestyskorrelaatiokertoimella ja hierarkkisella lineaarisella regressioanalyysilla. Vanhemman omat oppimisen vaikeuksien kokemukset olivat tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4sti yhteydess\u00e4 tuen min\u00e4pystyvyyteen. Vanhemman ja\nlapsen min\u00e4pystyvyyden kokemukset selittiv\u00e4t tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4sti lapsen taitotasoa lukemisessa ja laskemisessa. Tulosten mukaan tuen min\u00e4pystyvyys ja konkreettinen lapsen tukeminen voivat erota toisistaan lukemisen ja matematiikan osalta. Tuen min\u00e4pystyvyytt\u00e4 tulisi tutkia vanhemmilla oppilailla, jolloin kouluteht\u00e4v\u00e4t vaikeutuvat ja vanhemman tuella voi olla suurempi merkitys akateemisen min\u00e4pystyvyyden kannalta. Samoin olisi syyt\u00e4 tutkia, voiko tuen\nmin\u00e4pystyvyytt\u00e4 vahvistaa ja vaikuttaako se lapsen tukemiseen. Koulutulokkaat voivat arvioida omaa min\u00e4pystyvyytt\u00e4\u00e4n varsin korkeaksi huolimatta todellisesta taitotasosta, joten lis\u00e4tutkimusta tarvitaan my\u00f6s my\u00f6hemmilt\u00e4 koululuokilta. There is not much research on parental self-efficacy related to supporting a child's schoolwork. It is plausible that parents\u2019 own experiences with learning may influence this form of self-efficacy. As learning difficulties have a hereditary component, it is essential to study these relations already at the onset of\neducation. The aim of this study was to examine the association between parents\u2019 experiences of learning difficulties and their self-efficacy of parental support. Secondly, we explored whether selfefficacy of parental support is associated with the child\u2019s academic self-efficacy at the end of first grade. The third aim was to investigate whether the self-efficacy beliefs of both the parent and the\nchild are related to the child\u2019s skill level in reading and mathematics at the end of first grade. The study was part of the longitudinal Pieni Karhu project conducted at the University of Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4. Participants included 161 first graders and their guardians, recruited from schools in the regions of Central Finland, Northern Savonia, and Tampere Region. Some of the children (n = 101) had poorly developed\nacademic basic skills while some of them (n = 60) had typically developed skills. The data was analyzed using Spearman\u2019s rank correlation coefficient and hierarchical linear regression analysis. Parents\u2019 experiences of learning difficulties were significantly associated with their self-efficacy of parental support. Both parent\u2019s and child\u2019s self-efficacy beliefs were significant predictors of the child's reading and mathematics skills. Self-efficacy of parental support and actual support may differ\nbetween reading and mathematics domains. Further research should examine self-efficacy of parental support among parents of older students, as academic tasks become more challenging and parental support may play a greater role in shaping children's academic self-efficacy. It would be beneficial to study whether self-efficacy of parental support can be enhanced and if it affects the support given to\nthe child. Early grade students may tend to assess their self-efficacy optimistically regardless of their actual skill level, highlighting the need for continued research in later school years. This study provides unique insights into the academic self-efficacy and reading and mathematics performance of first graders who are at risk for learning difficulties and ADHD.
