Biohajoavien muovien\navulla on mahdollisuus v\u00e4hent\u00e4\u00e4 muovien aiheuttamia haittoja ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6lle ja\ntehd\u00e4 siit\u00e4 turvallisempi eli\u00f6ille. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkielmassa perehdyttiin biohajoavien\nmuovien hajoamiseen j\u00e4rvi- ja murtovedess\u00e4. Tutkimus tehtiin, sill\u00e4 biohajoavien\nmuovien hajoamisnopeuksista akvaattisissa ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6iss\u00e4 ja hajoamisen\nm\u00e4\u00e4ritysmenetelmist\u00e4 tarvitaan lis\u00e4\u00e4 tietoa, jotta muovimateriaaleja ja\ntutkimusmenetelmi\u00e4 voidaan parhaan mukaan kehitt\u00e4\u00e4. Muovien hajoamista\ntutkittiin kokeellisin menetelmin, joilla pyrittiin selvitt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n tutkimukseen\nvalittujen muovien hajoamisnopeuksia. K\u00e4sittelyist\u00e4 mitattiin painov\u00e4henem\u00e4,\nhiilidioksidin tuotto ja mikrobibiomassan tuotanto 28 vuorokauden\ntutkimusjakson aikana. Menetelmien tuloksia vertailtiin toisiinsa. J\u00e4rvivedess\u00e4\nkaksi biohajoavaa muovia, selluloosa-asetaatti (CA) ja polyhydroksibutyraattipolyhydroksivaleraatti (PHB/PHV) hajosivat v\u00e4hint\u00e4\u00e4n yhden menetelm\u00e4n\nperusteella nopeammin kuin \u00f6ljypohjainen muovi nailon. Murtovedess\u00e4 ei\nhavaittu merkitsevi\u00e4 eroja biohajoavien ja \u00f6ljypohjaisen muovin\nhajoamisnopeuksien v\u00e4lill\u00e4. Jokainen tutkimuksen nelj\u00e4st\u00e4 biohajoavasta\nmuovista hajosi v\u00e4hint\u00e4\u00e4n yhden menetelm\u00e4n perusteella j\u00e4rvivedess\u00e4\nnopeammin kuin murtovedess\u00e4. Menetelmien v\u00e4lisess\u00e4 vertailussa hajoaminen\noli nelj\u00e4ss\u00e4 k\u00e4sittelyss\u00e4 painov\u00e4henem\u00e4n perusteella nopeampaa kuin\nhiilidioksidin tuoton perusteella. Tulosten perusteella tutkituista muoveista CA\nja PHB/PHV vaikuttavat ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6n saastumisen v\u00e4hent\u00e4mist\u00e4 ajatellen\npotentiaalisimmilta kasvavaan k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6n.", "language": "fi", "element": "description", "qualifier": "abstract", "schema": "dc"}, {"key": "dc.description.abstract", "value": "Environmental pollution caused by plastic waste is a major problem in both\nterrestrial and aquatic environments because conventional oil-based plastics are\nvery persistent and degrade slowly after they end up in the environment.\nPartially replacing oil-based plastics with biodegradable plastics is an\nopportunity to reduce society\u2019s dependence on fossil oil and promising path\ntowards more sustainable and environmentally friendly consumption. With\nbiodegradable plastic use we have a chance to reduce problems caused by plastic\nand make that way environment safer place for all organisms. This study was\nmade because more information is needed on the degradation rate of\nbiodegradable plastics and methods for determining degradation so that plastic\nmaterials and research methods can be developed as well as possible.\nDegradation of biodegradable plastics was studied in fresh water and brackish\nwater. The degradation was examined using experimental methods aiming to\ndetermine the degradation rates of selected plastics. During the 28-day research\nperiod, treatments\u2019 weight loss, carbon dioxide production and microbial\nbiomass production were measured. The results between different methods were\ncompared. In fresh water, two biodegradable plastics, cellulose acetate (CA) and\npolyhydroxybutyrate-polyhydroxyvalerate (PHB/PHV) degraded faster than\noil-based nylon according to one or more research methods. No significant\ndifferences were observed between the degradation rates of biodegradable and\noil-based plastics in brackish water. Each of the four biodegradable plastics in the\nstudy degraded faster in the fresh water than in the brackish water by one or\nmore methods. In the comparison between the methods, observed degradation\nwas faster based on weight loss in four treatments than on carbon dioxide\nproduction.
