Kohdekielen\u00e4 tutkimuksessa oli tanskan kieli, jota opittiin ilman muodollista opetusta todellisissa kielenk\u00e4ytt\u00f6tilanteissa. Konteksti tutkimuksessa muodostui kansanmusiikin koulutusohjelman puolen vuoden vaihtojaksosta Tanskassa. Vaikka virallinen kieli opinnoissa oli englanti, tanskan kielell\u00e4 oli vahva rooli opintojen ohessa. Tutkimuksen viitekehyksen\u00e4 toimii ekologinen n\u00e4k\u00f6kulma. Koska kielenoppimisen kontekstit luokkahuoneen ulkopuolella ovat moninaiset, tutkimusta tarvitaan eri ik\u00e4ryhmist\u00e4, kielist\u00e4 ja konteksteista. T\u00e4m\u00e4 tutkimus t\u00e4ydent\u00e4\u00e4 monimuotoista tutkimuskentt\u00e4\u00e4 erityisesti nuorten aikuisten n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta.\nTutkimus toteutettiin tapaustutkimuksena. Tutkimuksen aineisto koostui viidest\u00e4 teemahaastattelusta. Aineisto ker\u00e4ttiin haastattelemalla 2010-luvun lopussa Tanskassa opiskelleita pohjoismaisen kansanmusiikin maisteriohjelman opiskelijoita ja haastattelut analysoitiin sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysill\u00e4. Kohderyhm\u00e4 oli monikielinen.\nTutkimus osoitti, ett\u00e4 oppijoiden oma asenne ja motivaatio vaikuttivat my\u00f6nteisesti oppimiseen. Lis\u00e4ksi oppijoiden oma-aloitteisuus ja aktiivisuus olivat keskeisess\u00e4 roolissa uuden kielen oppimisessa. Oppijoiden toimijuus linkittyi vahvasti useisiin tarjoumiin eli affordansseihin, joihin oppijat eiv\u00e4t pelk\u00e4st\u00e4\u00e4n tarttuneet, vaan my\u00f6s omalla toiminnallaan lis\u00e4siv\u00e4t tarjoumien esiintymist\u00e4 esimerkiksi j\u00e4rjest\u00e4m\u00e4ll\u00e4 itse tapahtumia, joihin he kutsuivat paikallisia opiskelijoita. Kielt\u00e4 opittiin muun muassa keskustelemalla ja kyselem\u00e4ll\u00e4 sanojen ja ilmausten merkityksi\u00e4 sek\u00e4 kysym\u00e4ll\u00e4 mallia \u00e4\u00e4nt\u00e4miseen paikallisilta opiskelijoilta. Ruotsin vaikutus tanskan kielen oppimisessa oli merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4, ja ryhm\u00e4n j\u00e4senet loivat ennemminkin oman yhdistelm\u00e4n tanskasta ja ruotsista puhtaasti tanskan kielen sijaan.
