P\u00e4\u00e4tavoite oli tunnistaa suojavy\u00f6hykkeen vaatimat luonnonmukaiset uomat siit\u00e4 huolimatta, ett\u00e4 uomilla on ihmistoiminnan takia ojamaisia piirteit\u00e4. Osana ty\u00f6ss\u00e4 k\u00e4ytett\u00e4v\u00e4n pohjamateriaalin validoimista tutkittiin viivageometrioiden sinuositeettia. Eri avoimen l\u00e4hdekoodin ohjelmistojen avulla luonnon uomille toteutettiin geometriavertailu, jolla tuotettiin Maanmittauslaitoksen virtavesikapea-tasosta puuttuvaa tietoa kyseisist\u00e4 kohteista, jotta l\u00e4ht\u00f6aineisto maastosta saatiin selvitetty\u00e4. T\u00e4m\u00e4n j\u00e4lkeen tavoitteena oli toistaa aiempi satunnaismets\u00e4mallinnusta hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4v\u00e4 tutkimus, joka korkeusmallipohjaisesti tunnistaa ojia ja puroja. Satunnaismets\u00e4mallinnuksessa k\u00e4ytet\u00e4\u00e4n l\u00e4ht\u00f6aineistoa kuvaamaan todellista tilannetta, johon luokittelun ennustetta verrataan. Satunnaismets\u00e4mallinnuksen metriikat ja visualisointi antoivat viitett\u00e4 toimivasta mallista, joka on toteutettavissa. T\u00e4llaista mallinnusta ei ollut mahdollista vied\u00e4 loppuun saakka tutkielman puitteissa. Ojamaisten purojen tarkastuksen lopputulos on geometriavertailutaso, joka vertaa korkeusmallikuvasta tuotettua Stream Network with Order -tasoa sek\u00e4 SYKE Ranta10-, PUROHELMEN Bioennuste- ja Maanmittauslaitoksen virtavesikapea- ja vanhatkartat.fi -tasoja. Buffer zones are used in forest management planning as a method for protecting running waters. This planning typically takes place on a computer before visiting the actual site. In this master\u2019s thesis, ditch-like streams were detected using spatial data from publicly available open sources. The main goal was to identify and distinguish natural streams even though they may exhibit ditch-like characteristics due to human activity. As part of the work, sinuosity was studied to help validate the available source data. By utilizing open-source material from various organizations, it was possible to conduct geometric comparisons and fill in missing data to the map layers of National Land Survey of Finland. This allowed for the creation of a ground truth dataset representing the actual terrain. Following this, the aim was to replicate a previous study that used Random Forest machine learning and digital elevation model-based imagery to identify ditches and streams. In the Random Forest classification, the source material serves as a reference to evaluating how well the results represent reality. The resulting metrics and visualizations demonstrated that the model used is functional and feasible. However, this type of modelling could not be fully implemented or validated within the framework of the thesis. The outcome of the analysis of ditch-like streams was a geometry comparison layer, which evaluates the alignment of the Stream Network with Order layer derived from a digital elevation model with SYKE\u2019s Ranta10, PUROHELMI Bio prediction, the National Land Survey\u2019s Virtavesikapea, and Vanhatkartat.fi layers. The buffering of streams to highlight channels relevant for forest management planning was based on this geometric comparison.
