Digital services can be used to influence consumer behaviour and address the phenomenon identified as the \"green gap\", in which consumer behaviour does not match the increasing positive attitude towards sustainability. A successful digital service is based on the co-creation of value, where the user defines value by using the service. Both value co-creation and customer experience are influenced by the user's background and environment, which refers to their personal contextual factors. Value co-creation in the context of digital services that promote sustainable consumption \u2014 that is, green information systems \u2014 has received little scholarly attention, and contextual factors offer a novel perspective for further research. Bringing a contextual perspective into the research on this topic will deepen the understanding of the processes of sustainable consumption and value co-creation, providing important insights for the development of digital services to enable value co-creation and sustainable consumption. The purpose of this master\u2019s thesis is to address the identified gap in the research on sustainable value co-creation by creating an understanding of the importance of contextual factors in the use of digital services in the retail sector. 217 retail customers interested in sustainability and technology were interviewed using a qualitative laddering interview method. From the 398 ladder chains selected for the study, the attribute, consequence and value codes were first identified and then the data was analysed in terms of contextual factors. From the contextual factors present in the data, five themes were created: individual emotional and cognitive, physical and economic, sustainable normative and other normative contextual factors, and a theme of social, market and environmental factors that encompasses external contextual factors. The findings reveal how these multidimensional contextual factors influence service choice, use and the resulting co-creation of value. Among the features of digital services, those with financial incentives in particular were perceived as contributing to sustainable and other personal values. This study deepens the understanding of value co-creation enabled by digital services that support sustainability in retail, offering insights that are valuable for service design. Kontekstin\u00e4k\u00f6kulman tuominen aiheen tutkimukseen syvent\u00e4\u00e4 ymm\u00e4rryst\u00e4 kest\u00e4v\u00e4n kulutuksen ja arvon yhteisluonnin prosesseista tarjoten digitaalisten palvelujen kehitykseen t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4 tietoa arvon yhteisluonnin ja kest\u00e4v\u00e4n kulutuksen mahdollistamiseksi. T\u00e4m\u00e4n pro gradu -tutkielman tarkoituksena on vastata tunnistettuun aukkoon kest\u00e4vien arvojen yhteisluonnin tutkimuksessa luomalla ymm\u00e4rryst\u00e4 kontekstitekij\u00f6iden merkityksest\u00e4 v\u00e4hitt\u00e4iskaupan digitaalisten palvelujen k\u00e4yt\u00f6ss\u00e4. 217 kest\u00e4vyydest\u00e4 ja teknologiasta kiinnostunutta v\u00e4hitt\u00e4iskaupan asiakasta haastateltiin laadullista laddering-haastattelumenetelm\u00e4\u00e4 k\u00e4ytt\u00e4en. Tutkimukseen rajatuista 398 ladder-ketjusta tunnistettiin ensin ominaisuus-, perustelu- ja tavoitekoodit, mink\u00e4 j\u00e4lkeen aineisto analysoitiin kontekstitekij\u00f6iden n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta. Aineistosta esiintyvist\u00e4 kontekstitekij\u00f6ist\u00e4 luotiin viisi teemaa, jotka ovat yksil\u00f6lliset emotionaaliset ja kognitiiviset, fyysiset ja ekonomiset, kest\u00e4v\u00e4t normatiiviset sek\u00e4 muut normatiiviset kontekstitekij\u00e4t ja ulkoiset kontekstitekij\u00e4t kokoava sosiaalisten, markkinan ja ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6n kontekstitekij\u00f6iden teema. L\u00f6yd\u00f6kset kuvastavat, kuinka n\u00e4m\u00e4 moniulotteiset kontekstitekij\u00e4t vaikuttavat palvelun valintaan, k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6n ja sit\u00e4 kautta saatavaan arvon yhteisluontiin.
