Effective solutions must be cognitively grounded, role-sensi-\ntive, and aligned with socio-technical constraints. This thesis addresses this chal-\nlenge by developing a design thinking framework through a design science re-\nsearch process to guide the development of extended reality applications for sup-\nporting situation awareness. The framework integrates theories of individual,\nshared, and distributed situation awareness with a life-based design approach to\nensure alignment with users\u2019 cognitive capacities, roles, and operational contexts.\nEmpirical material from the intralogistics domain informed the development of\nthe framework by providing insights into challenges related to situation aware-\nness and contextual constraints in mixed fleet operations. These findings were\ntranslated, through the structuring logic of life-based design, into concept-level\ninterventions and narrative scenarios that illustrate how extended reality can\nstructure and deliver situation-relevant information in complex operational con-\ntexts. The resulting framework offers structured guidance for designing solutions\nthat are cognitively appropriate and contextually compatible for supporting sit-\nuation awareness in human\u2013technology collaboration. While developed in the\ncontext of intralogistics, the framework is intended to be applicable to other au-\ntomation-intensive domains where coordination between human and machine\nagents is critical. N\u00e4m\u00e4 havainnot muotoiltiin el\u00e4m\u00e4l\u00e4ht\u00f6isen suunnittelun ra-\nkenteen ohjaamana konseptitason toimenpiteiksi ja narratiivisiksi skenaarioiksi,\njotka havainnollistavat, kuinka laajennettu todellisuus voi j\u00e4sent\u00e4\u00e4 ja v\u00e4litt\u00e4\u00e4 ti-\nlannekohtaista tietoa monimutkaisissa operatiivisissa ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6iss\u00e4.
