University of Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4, Sport Pedagogy, master\u2019s thesis, 42 pages, 1 appendice.\n\nThe purpose of this study was to find out whether physical education teachers working in lower and upper secondary education use flipped learning (FL), how this is implemented in practice and what kind of experiences physical education teachers have with the method. The aim was also to find out whether physical education teachers feel the need for further training in the implementation of FL in physical education teaching. There has been very little research on FL in the context of physical education. In Finland, there is still no compiled data on whether physical education teachers use this method in their teaching and what kind of experiences teachers have with it. \n\nThe research is situated in the field of physical education pedagogy and educational sciences. The theoretical framework is based on a constructivist approach to learning, in which the student plays an active role in the constructing their own understanding. FL refers to a pedagogical model in which the traditional teaching structure is reversed so that the students engage with new content before class, for example through videos or other materials. This method allows in-class time to be used more on active learning, practice and interaction. The active role of the learner is in the center of this method. This study was conducted in spring 2025 as an electronic survey using the Webropol survey platform. A total of 97 physical education teachers working in lower and upper secondary education participated in the study. Experiences with FL were assessed using a five-point Likert scale. Open-ended questions were also included. The survey provided both quantitative and qualitative data. The data was analyzed statistically, and by using qualitative methods.\n\nThe survey found that just over half (53%) of physical education teachers had used FL in their teaching. The majority of respondents (65%) reported using it occasianally a few times per school year. The most commonly used platforms for implementation were Youtube, Wilma, Classroom and websites. The usefulness of the method was assessed on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the most positive outcome. The usefulness of FL in physical education received an average usefulness score of 3.4. The increase in participation scored 3.2, while improvement in PE knowledge and skills received an average score of 3.5. 72% of PE teachers indicated an interest in further training or courses in this area. \n\nThe most common of the perceived challenges was the lack of student engagement in the pre-tasks. Nearly half of the respondents had not used FL in their physical education teaching, which suggests that the method is still not widely used in Finnish lower and upper secondary schools. Teoreettisena viitekehyksen\u00e4 toimii konstruktivistinen oppimisk\u00e4sitys, jossa oppilaalla on aktiivinen rooli tiedon rakentajana. FL k\u00e4sitteen\u00e4 tarkoittaa k\u00e4\u00e4nteist\u00e4 oppimista. Sen toteuttamisessa k\u00e4ytet\u00e4\u00e4n k\u00e4\u00e4nteist\u00e4 opetusta (flipped classroom). Menetelm\u00e4ss\u00e4 opetuksen rakennetta on k\u00e4\u00e4nnetty siten, ett\u00e4 oppija tutustuu ennakkoon uuteen opiskeltavaan aiheeseen tai sis\u00e4lt\u00f6\u00f6n esimerkiksi opetusvideon tai teht\u00e4v\u00e4materiaalien avulla. T\u00e4ll\u00f6in varsinaisella l\u00e4sn\u00e4olotunnilla keskityt\u00e4\u00e4n aktiiviseen oppimisen syvent\u00e4miseen, harjoitteluun ja vuorovaikutukseen. Menetelm\u00e4ss\u00e4 keskeist\u00e4 on oppilaan aktiivinen rooli. \n\nTutkimus toteutettiin kev\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4 2025 s\u00e4hk\u00f6isen\u00e4 kyselytutkimuksena k\u00e4ytt\u00e4en Webropol-kyselyalustaa. Tutkimukseen osallistui 97 yl\u00e4koulussa ja toisella asteella opettavaa liikunnanopettajaa. Kokemuksia FL:st\u00e4 arvioitiin viisiportaisen Likert-asteikon avulla. Mukana oli my\u00f6s avoimia kysymyksi\u00e4. Kyselylomake tuotti sek\u00e4 m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4llist\u00e4 ett\u00e4 laadullista aineistoa. Aineisto analysoitiin tilastollisesti ja laadullisin menetelmin.\n\nTutkimuksen mukaan hieman yli puolet (53 %) liikunnanopettajista oli k\u00e4ytt\u00e4nyt FL:\u00e4 liikunnanopetuksessaan. Vastanneista suurin osa (65 %) ilmoitti toteuttavansa t\u00e4t\u00e4 satunnaisesti joitakin kertoja lukuvuodessa. K\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6n toteutuksessa eniten hy\u00f6dynnetyt alustat olivat Youtube (76 %), Wilma (47 %), Classroom (39 %) ja verkkosivut (39 %). FL:n hy\u00f6dyllisyys liikunnanopetuksessa sai keskiarvon 3,4. Osallistumisaktiivisuuden lis\u00e4\u00e4ntyminen puolestaan sai ka:n 3,2 ja liikunnan tietojen ja taitojen oppimisen lis\u00e4\u00e4ntyminen ka:n 3,5. Liikunnanopettajista 72 % ilmoitti olevansa kiinnostunut FL:n toteuttamiseen liittyv\u00e4st\u00e4 lis\u00e4koulutuksesta tai kurssista.
