T\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa selvitettiin, eroaako aikuisten, joilla on lukivaikeus, ja tyypillisten lukijoiden koulutusaste, ty\u00f6llisyys ja ty\u00f6tyytyv\u00e4isyys toisistaan. Lis\u00e4ksi tarkasteltiin, onko lukemisen sujuvuus yhteydess\u00e4 edell\u00e4 mainittuihin muuttujiin lukivaikeusryhm\u00e4n sis\u00e4ll\u00e4. Aikuisi\u00e4n lukivaikeuden vaikutuksista koulutusasteeseen ja ty\u00f6llisyyteen on olemassa jonkin verran tutkimustietoa, mutta erityisesti s\u00e4\u00e4nn\u00f6nmukaisen ortografian kieliss\u00e4, kuten suomen kieless\u00e4, tutkimusta on yh\u00e4 melko v\u00e4h\u00e4n. T\u00e4m\u00e4 tutkimus tuo my\u00f6s uutta tietoa lukivaikeuden ja ty\u00f6tyytyv\u00e4isyyden v\u00e4lisest\u00e4 yhteydest\u00e4, jota ei ole aiemmin tutkittu Suomessa.\nTutkimuksen aineisto on ker\u00e4tty kyselylomakkeella ja lukemisen sujuvuuden testill\u00e4 osana Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4 Longitudinal Study of Dyslexia -tutkimushanketta. Kyselylomakkeeseen vuosina 2002\u20132004 vastasi 317 aikuista, joista 66:lla oli todettu lukivaikeus. Vuosina 1993\u20131996 suoritetun lukemisen sujuvuuden testitulokset oli saatavilla 48 lukivaikeusryhm\u00e4\u00e4n kuuluneelta. Tilastollisina analyysimenetelmin\u00e4 k\u00e4ytettiin khiin neli\u00f6 -testi\u00e4, t-testi\u00e4, Mann\u2013Whitneyn U -testi\u00e4 ja korrelaatioanalyyseja. \nTulosten mukaan sek\u00e4 lukivaikeus ett\u00e4 lukivaikeusryhm\u00e4n sis\u00e4ll\u00e4 tarkasteltu lukemisen sujuvuus olivat yhteydess\u00e4 alempaan koulutusasteeseen. Lukivaikeusryhm\u00e4n peruskoulutus j\u00e4i useammin peruskoulun tai keskiasteen tasolle ja heill\u00e4 oli harvemmin korkeakoulututkinto kuin tyypillisill\u00e4 lukijoilla. Lukivaikeusryhm\u00e4n sis\u00e4ll\u00e4 havaittiin kohtalainen positiivinen yhteys lukemisen sujuvuuden ja ammatillisen koulutustason v\u00e4lill\u00e4. Ty\u00f6tt\u00f6myyden ja ty\u00f6tyytyv\u00e4isyyden osalta ei havaittu tilastollisesti merkitsevi\u00e4 eroja ryhmien v\u00e4lill\u00e4 eik\u00e4 lukivaikeusryhm\u00e4n sis\u00e4ll\u00e4. T\u00e4m\u00e4 viittaa siihen, ett\u00e4 lukutaito vaikuttaa enemm\u00e4n koulutuspolkuun kuin ty\u00f6el\u00e4m\u00e4ss\u00e4 p\u00e4rj\u00e4\u00e4miseen, mik\u00e4 saattaa johtua siit\u00e4, ett\u00e4 koulussa lukemisen ja kirjoittamisen taidoilla on suurempi merkitys kuin ty\u00f6el\u00e4m\u00e4ss\u00e4.
