Aryyliryhmi\u00e4, eli aromaattisia rengasrakenteita sis\u00e4lt\u00e4vi\u00e4 funktionaalisia ryhmi\u00e4 esiintyy tuhansissa bioaktiivisissa molekyyleiss\u00e4, mik\u00e4 on her\u00e4tt\u00e4nyt kiinnostuksen niihin my\u00f6s synteesikemistien keskuudessa. Aryylisubstituoitujen C(sp3)\u2013H-sidosten funktionalisointi- ja ristikytkent\u00e4reaktiot ovat t\u00e4rkeit\u00e4 orgaanisia reaktioita etenkin l\u00e4\u00e4ke- ja maatalouskemikaalien valmistuksen kannalta. Ristikytkent\u00e4reaktioiden tieteellinen tutkimus keskittyy etenkin hiili\u2013hiili-, hiili\u2013typpi- ja hiili\u2013happi sidosten muodostamiseen. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tyyppiset reaktiot ovat usein ristikytkent\u00e4reaktioita, jossa kaksi erillist\u00e4 molekyylikokonaisuutta kytket\u00e4\u00e4n yhteen. \n\nKlassisesti etenkin hiili\u2013hiilisidosten muodostusreaktiot ovat vaatineet vaativia reaktio-olosuhteita tai monivaiheisia synteesireittej\u00e4. Usein reaktiot toteutetaan funktionalisoimalla l\u00e4ht\u00f6aine reaktiivisemmaksi, esimerkiksi muodostamalla organohalidi, mink\u00e4 j\u00e4lkeen uusi sidos muodostetaan klassisella substituutioon perustuvalla reaktiolla. Aryylisubstituoitujen hiili(sp\u00b3)\u2013vetysidosten poikkeuksellinen reaktiivisuus mahdollistaa kuitenkin vaihtoehtoisen l\u00e4hestymistavan uusien sidosten muodostamiseen. T\u00e4t\u00e4 reaktiivisuutta hy\u00f6dynnet\u00e4\u00e4n usein orgaanisissa reaktioissa. T\u00e4m\u00e4n opinn\u00e4ytety\u00f6n kirjallisessa osassa esitet\u00e4\u00e4n teoriaa ja esimerkkej\u00e4 bentsyylisen aseman ja joidenkin muiden aryylisubstituoitujen C(sp3)\u2013H-sidosten reaktiivisuudesta, ristikytkent\u00e4reaktioista ja synteesistrategioista. Lis\u00e4ksi k\u00e4sitell\u00e4\u00e4n siirtym\u00e4metallien roolia C\u2013H-sidosten aktivoinnissa sek\u00e4 esitell\u00e4\u00e4n yleisi\u00e4 reaktiomekanismeja, joiden kautta n\u00e4m\u00e4 reaktiot etenev\u00e4t. Lis\u00e4ksi pohditaan reaktioiden mahdollisia sovelluskohteita. Kirjallinen osa toimii samalla johdantona kokeelliselle osalle. \n\nKokeellisessa osassa tavoitteena oli suorittaa palladiumkatalysoituja ristidehydrogenatiivisia kytkent\u00e4reaktioita indolin C3-substituoituneen metyyliryhm\u00e4n eli 3-indolyylimetyylin ja \u03b2 ketoestereiden sek\u00e4 \u03b2-ketoamidien v\u00e4lill\u00e4. Reaktio-olosuhteita optimoitiin korkeampien saantojen saavuttamiseksi. L\u00e4ht\u00f6aineina k\u00e4ytettiin kolmea eri indolia, nelj\u00e4\u00e4 \u03b2-ketoesteri\u00e4 ja yht\u00e4 \u03b2-ketoamidia. Kokeellisessa osassa esitet\u00e4\u00e4n kuusi reaktioesimerkki\u00e4, jotka antoivat saantoja 44 %:n ja 91 %:n v\u00e4lill\u00e4, mit\u00e4 voidaan pit\u00e4\u00e4 v\u00e4hint\u00e4\u00e4nkin tyydytt\u00e4v\u00e4n\u00e4 tuloksena.
