Aurinkovoimalakäyttöön muutettavien turve-tuotantoalueille (TTA) kasvittamisen tutkimisesta on hyötyä luontokadon torjumisessa, ja tiedon lisääntyminen edistää kestävää maankäyttöä. Tässä työssä selvitettiin kolme ja kymmenen vuotta sitten käytöstä poistetun TTA:n biogeokemiallisia olosuhteita: turpeen ominaisuuksia (paksuus, kosteus, orgaanisen aineksen määrä ja ravinteisuus), ilman lämpötilaa (Ta) ja alueen kasviyhteisöä. Lisäksi tutkittiin, onko kolme vuotta ja 10 vuotta sitten hylätyn alueen kasvuolosuhteissa eroa ja onko em. muuttujien välillä yhteyttä. Lisäksi selvitettiin, onko Ta eroa paneelia simuloivan katoksen alla ja avoimella turvekentällä. Tutkimusalueilta kerättiin maaperänäytteet (n = 40, 20 näytettä tutkimusalaa kohden) ja kasvillisuus kartoitettiin. Lämpötilaseuranta tehtiin paneelia simuloivan katoksen alla ja avoimella turvekentällä paneelien mahdollisesti aiheuttamien lämpötilaerojen hahmottamiseksi. Tutkimusalueista muodostettiin ilmakuvat dronen avulla. Kasvuolosuhteiden ja kasvilajien yhteyttä havainnollistettiin perustilastomenetelmien, korrelaatioanalyysin ja kaksiulotteisen NMDS-ordinaation avulla. Tutkimusalueiden välillä havaittiin pieniä eroja mitatuissa muuttujissa. Vanhemmalla alueella kasviyhteisö oli uudempaa aluetta monilajisempi. Vahva positiivinen korrelaatio havaittiin maaperänäytteiden Ca- ja Mg-pitoisuuksissa ja turpeen orgaanisen aineksen määrän ja kosteuden välillä. Ilman keskimääräinen lämpötila oli avoimella turvekentällä korkeampi kuin katoksen alla. Hoitosuunnitelma laadittiin alueen kasvittumisen edistämiseksi. Toimenpiteiksi suositeltiin tuhkalannoitusta, puuston raivausta ja ojien tukkimista pohjaveden pinnan nostamiseksi. Sarkojen kuperaa profiilia esitettiin muokattavaksi veden kerääntymisen edistämiseksi. Siirtoistutuksissa suositeltiin käytettäväksi vähä- ja keskiravinteisten ohutturpeisten soiden lajistoa. Tutkimustuloksia ja hoitosuunnitelmaa voidaan jatkohyödyntää aurinkovoimahankkeiden kehittämisessä turvesoille. Renewable energy technologies are increasingly being used to replace fossil fuels, such as energy peat. Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels can be installed on degraded land to avoid competition for land resources with agriculture or conservation. However, there is a paucity of research addressing the question of which management practices, if any, might enhance vegetation distribution in cutaway peatlands during the conversion to PV farms. Further research is necessary to combat the decline of biodiversity and promote sustainable land use. In this thesis, the following research questions were answered: What are the biogeochemical conditions (peat characteristics, air temperature (Ta), and current vegetation) at two cutaway sites where operation has ended three and ten years ago? Do these conditions differ between them and is there a relationship between the variables? Additionally, the study examined whether the Ta varied under the PV panel imitating frame and in open field conditions. Soil samples (n = 40, 20 at each site) were collected and the plant community was recorded in the field. The Ta was recorded under the panel imitating frame and in the open field. Aerial photographs of the study plots were created with a drone. The prevailing conditions and plant community were then visualized with descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and ordinated with non-metric multidimensional scaling (NMDS). The data analysis revealed that the biogeochemical conditions of the sites were mostly similar. However, the older site exhibited a greater diversity of vegetation than the newer site. A strong positive correlation was identified between Ca and Mg content. Additionally, the daily average Ta was observed to be higher in the open field than under the frame. A management plan was developed, based on these study results, for the cutaway sites to facilitate the peatland vegetation succession. The proposed management methods, tree felling, ditch blocking, and remodeling of the soil profile were suggested to promote the water accumulation. The rehabilitation measures should be aimed towards oligo-mesotrophic fen type plant communities. The study findings and the proposed recommendations provide a framework for considering biodiversity in PV projects situated within cutaway sites.
